The big name events like Comic Con Africa (and Cape Town) and rAge only ever occupy the biggest cities in South Africa, overlooking fans in less central areas and leaving them with either a hefty travel budget or just serious FOMO. But, not for long! If you’re a) into gaming, b) in and around Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal and, c) have no big plans for the next few days, then this is for you.
Powered by Game4U, and hosted by African Cyber Gaming League, Liberty Midlands Mall is hosting a gaming festival from Thursday 6th to Saturday 8th October 2022, from 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM each day, answering the call of the many gaming enthusiasts in KZN.
Entry is free to the festival, which takes place at the Liberty Midlands Mall Centre Court. Attendees will be able to compete in various mini-tournaments all weekend, with prizes awarded for players at the top of the leader board, as well in random draws. For starters, a Keyboard Rebuild Race, sponsored by Redragon will be on the go all weekend. The daily “fastest time” winners will each walk away with a Redragon keyboard, with an additional keyboard being given away in a lucky draw at the end of the weekend.
A PlayStation 4 FIFA 22 tournament will be hosted on Saturday 8 October from 10:00 AM, with a gaming chair, copies of FIFA 23 and gift cards to be won. Entry is limited to 64 participants and registration will be done on a first-come-first-served basis on the day. Entrants need to check-in at the venue from 9:00 AM.
Smartphone company POCO will be sponsoring various mobile events on offer throughout the festival. Secure the weekend’s highest kills in a round of battle royale at the event, or the highest score for a run in Subway Surfers and you could walk away with a brand new POCO phone. A random draw from all participants will see another two POCO phones being given away.
Numerous other gaming events will provide opportunities to win over the weekend, including Rocket League and Multiversus longest winning streaks. Plus, if you enjoy competing in a “fastest lap” contest, F1 2022 will be running all weekend with a R1 000 Midlands Mall gift card being given away each day.
And if all this wasn’t enough, attendees of the event will also be able to enter a draw for a typically-hard-to-find PlayStation 5 console, sponsored by Game4U.
