So, this day seemed to arrive fast. One year ago today, Pfangirl.com launched as an online space for quality pop culture opinion, features and news. It came about quickly, in response to a certain website (one that shall not be named) changing ownership, and the new owner first ghosting, and then casting aside, the writing staff. Pfangirl.com became a new home for writing and videos fuelled by fan passion.

Of course, it hasn’t been easy. We’re a non-profit project with everyone working day jobs, so establishing a daily posting schedule – so that you always have something new to read – has meant its fair share of late nights, early mornings, frantic typing over lunch breaks, and weekend-long writing stints.

A massive thank you to Tracy, Darryn, Kervyn, Sam, Cassey, Shadley, Cavie, Gary, Matty and Geoff for their contributions and background support. Their specialist knowledge, drive and talent shines through.

Now, the past year hasn’t been without its challenges. Despite the experience of our writing team, the site is new and unknown. In terms of reputation we’re essentially starting again as a tadpole in a teeming Great Lake. We want to express our gratitude to the marketing managers, publicists, and PR professionals from the realms of streaming TV, film, comics. gaming and tech, who have continued to support the site by providing news and opportunities. Our new industry connections, we’re very grateful for you too.

The same appreciation goes to the on-the-ground creators who have reached out with information on their projects. We know that’s not always an easy step to take.

At this point a special shout-out must go to Daily Maverick. If you didn’t hear the news last month, we’re now providing selected film and series reviews to this stalwart in independent online journalism, under their Maverick Life banner. To partner with such a respected, leading publication is a huge honour, and we’re incredibly grateful to the editorial team for being open to the idea, and receptive to our contributions.

Taking media, it’s been a very rough few years and we want to salute the friends and colleagues in (and now out) the industry who are fighting the good fight, and have been so supportive of our venture.

Also, obviously, thank you to all our readers. We hope we add something positive and/or thought-provoking to your day. If you find something that you really enjoy, please share it on your social channels, and generally spread the word. That gives us some clout in the metrics front, which in turn helps us to grow, and offer you better, timeous content.

Now, you have our permission to go and have some cake, or other treat of your choice. Enjoy!
