There aren’t many significant new streaming releases, but what this week lacks in quantity it makes up in quality as a veritable geekstravaganza kicks off today with the hotly-anticipated premiere of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+ as well as the long-awaited return of Stranger Things! MY BODY IS READY!

SERIES

Obi-Wan Kenobi S1

Disney+ – 27 May 2022

Hello there! After years and years of fans asking for it, Ewan McGregor is finally reprising his fan-favourite role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Once pitched as a feature film before it morphed into a big-budget TV series, this 6-episode show catches us up to what the Jedi Master was up to on Tatooine as he watched over a young Luke Skywalker… and apparently it’s quite a lot based on the trailer. Not to mention the return of a certain hard-breathing Sith lord!

Stranger Things S4 Vol.1

Netflix – 27 May 2022

Finally! After a wait so long that I was starting to fear the young cast would be old enough to have had their own kids, arguably Netflix’s biggest phenom series is back! And this time it’s not only back to its previous highs, but it’s also bigger than ever ! Vol.1 of this penultimate season gives us seven episodes of horror, laughs, and emotion with runtimes pushing up to 100 mins (and a reported budget of $30 million per episode). And it gets even bigger when the final two episodes for season 4 drop in July – the finale clocks in at a whopping 150 mins!

The Girl From Plainville

Showmax – 27 May 2022

Inspired by the shocking true story, this 8-episode mini-series stars Elle Fanning and digs into the case of Michelle Carter, a 17-year old girl who encouraged her boyfriend via text messages to kill himself. When the troubled boy actually committed suicide it set the stage for a groundbreaking legal drama.

Borgen: Power and Glory

Netflix – 2 June 2022

I have to admit that I know very little about Borgen except that the long running Danish crime-drama franchise has been a hugely successful hit for years now. Well, for the fans out there, the latest chapter in this saga is now here to keep you entertained!

MOVIES

Emergency

Amazon Prime Video – 27 May 2022

I’ll admit I hadn’t heard about this before now, but I loved CJ Ryler in The Harder They Fall so I’m definitely willing to give this a try. Especially since this thriller, about three students whose planned night of wild partying goes lethally wrong, got very strong buzz on the festival circuit.

We Feed People

Disney+ – 27 May 2022

Produced by Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, this feature-length documentary spotlights renowned chef José Andrés and his nonprofit World Central Kitchen’s incredible mission and evolution over 12 years, from being a scrappy group of grassroots volunteers to becoming one of the most highly regarded humanitarian aid organizations in the disaster relief sector.

The Batman

Google Play Movies/AppleTV – 26 May 2022

Were you one of those people that looked at The Batman’s bladder-bursting three-hour runtime and noped right out of it? Well, now you can finally check out director Matt Reeves and star Robert Pattinson’s brilliant reimagination of the Dark Knight with your own preferred toilet breaks as the film is now available for rental on Google Play Movies/AppleTV at 4K!
