Looks like we’re in for some… gray weather this weekend. Specifically it will be raining down explosions with spy thriller The Gray Man. Besides for the Russo Bros.’s latest blockbuster though, we also have some movie magic, a truly despicable human being, and more!
MOVIES
The Gray Man
Netflix – 22 July 2022
It’s spy vs spy as Ryan Gosling’s CIA assassin on the run has to battle with weapons and wits against Chris Evans’ unhinged contract killer out to get him! Ooh! The Russo Bros. made their collective name with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this star-studded globe-trotting, action-packed blockbuster sees them trying to launch their own franchise of superhumans (no, they don’t have powers, but these guys can take a beating!). Although reviews have been mixed, there’s definitely still enough here for some thrilling action escapism.
The Most Hated Man on the Internet
27 July 2022
It takes a certain kind of scumbag to dub themselves as a “professional life ruiner”, but that’s exactly what Hunter Moore did with his notorious website where he shared nude pics of women without their permission. But after literally just laughing at the misery of his victims, the self-proclaimed “King of Revenge Porn” finally met his match in something he was not expecting: A very determined mother. This documentary details just how that struggle went down.
SERIES
Best Foot Forward
AppleTV+ – 22 July 2022
Going to a new school is tough enough, and even tougher when you’re coming from a home-schooled background. Now how about you also add in the complication of a prosthetic leg? That’s the basis of Best Foot Forward, a new teen comedy series based on real-life Paralympian Josh Sundquist’s best-selling memoir, Just Don’t Fall.
Light & Magic
Disney+ – 27 July 2022
“Anything is possible”. Few institutions symbolize that statement as much as Industrial Light & Magic. Founded by George Lucas in 1975 during the production of Star Wars, this movie visual effects giant has gone on to revolutionize the industry, setting the benchmarks for what can be achieved on screen and often exceeding them. And now this documentary series from Oscar-nominated filmmaker (and Star Wars screenwriter) Lawrence Kasdan takes behind the curtain of this home of wizardry.
Keep Breathing
Netflix – 28 July 2022
Unlike The Gray Man above, Netflix’s other notable new release this coming week sees no real star power and a very small cast. Keep Breathing is a six-episode miniseries that follows a lone woman who has to face not only her dangerous surroundings and life-threatening weather but also her troubled past, after her small plan crashes in the Canadian wilderness.
