Need a mental escape right now courtesy of some quality entertainment? Disney is going the quality over quantity route in November, letting viewers (mostly) take a breath between the conclusion of Agatha All Along and the start of coming-of-age adventure Star Wars: Skeleton Crew in an already gift-packed December.
Until then, though, here’s what we recommend you check out in terms of streamer debuts this month.
Music by John Williams (Documentary Film)
Star Wars. Indiana Jones. Superman. Jaws. Jurassic Park. Harry Potter. Movies wouldn’t sound the same without the work of composer John Williams. Music by John Williams delves into the story of this living legend, with insights from filmmakers, musicians, and others he has inspired, plus never-before-seen footage of the maestro at work.
Watch Music by John Williams from 1 November.
Deadpool & Wolverine (Film)
If you missed it during its cinema run, it’s finally your chance to watch Deadpool & Wolverine, the year’s biggest (R-rated) superhero hit, at home. Here’s our spoiler-free review of the on-screen team-up fans have been waiting decades for, as Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) is forced to recruit a washed up Wolverine AKA Logan (Hugh Jackman) from another universe in order to save his world. Expect loads of cameo appearances amidst all the humour and surprising heart.
Watch Deadpool & Wolverine from 12 November.
An Almost Christmas Story (Short Film)
If you need an early dose of holiday spirit for the whole family, check out stop-motion animated adventure An Almost Christmas Story from visionary filmmaker David Lowery. The short centres on Moon, a curious young owl who finds himself in bustling New York City, courtesy of a tree destined for Rockefeller Plaza. In the harsh setting, Moon finds a friend in the form of a lost little girl named Luna.
An Almost Christmas Story starts streaming 15 November on Disney+.
Interior Chinatown (Series)
Action comedy Interior Chinatown comes with the drawcard of filmmaker Taika Waititi executive producing the series, and directing the first episode. Based on Charles Yu’s award-winning book, the show sees waiter and character actor Willis Wu (Jimmy O. Yang) elevated out of his invisible background role when he witnesses to a crime. Suddenly he is key to unravelling a criminal web in Chinatown.
