After a jam-packed Day 1 of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week, that focused on highly anticipated television series, Day 2 was all about the new films we can look forward to on the streamer.

We got a very, very smol sneak peak at a new creature design from Rebel Moon, the upcoming science-fantasy epic from director Zack Snyder. There was also a behind-the-scenes video for Day Shift, Jamie Foxx’s upcoming action-packed vampire comedy about a hardworking dad who uses a pool-cleaning job as a front for his real gig: hunting and killing vampires.

Expanding on the international side, there are multiple upcoming foreign language films, including Spanish horror Killer Book Club, based on a novel about a group of college students haunted by an stalker out to take their lives and expose a killer secret. Another international offering is Blasted, a sci-fi comedy, inspired by a real-life UFO phenomenon in Norway, described as The Hangover meets Hot Fuzz, but with UFOs.

You can get the full rundown of Day 2 here, but here are our top picks for the new Netflix films that have us most excited.

The Gray Man

First up, we have a new clip from the Russo Brothers’ latest action movie, The Grey Gray Man, about a skilled CIA operative (Ryan Gosling) who accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets and the psychopathic former colleague (Chris Evans) who puts a bounty on his head, setting off a global manhunt by international assassins. How do you know Chris Evans is playing a bad guy? He has a moustache. Seriously, that’s all it takes. You can watch the full panel here, or skip straight to Gosling and Evans facing off with punches, explosions and witty bants in the exclusive clip below. The Gray Man starts streaming 22 July.

Spiderhead

I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually seen the latest clip from Spiderhead because I already know I want to watch the film, and I want to go into it knowing as little as possible. The trailer already had me excited, but if you need your curiousity piqued even further, there’s an exclusive clip below.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy), Spiderhead is based on The New Yorker short story, “Escape From Spiderhead,” by George Saunders. Two inmates (Miles Teller & Jurnee Smollett) form a connection while grappling with their pasts in a state-of-the-art penitentiary run by a brilliant visionary (Chris Hemsworth) who experiments on his subjects with mind-altering drugs. Spiderhead is out 17 June.

Troll

Troll, the new movie from Tomb Raider director Roar Uthaug, takes a dive into into Norwegian folklore and what may happen if those alleged myths suddenly came to life. Deep inside the mountain of Dovre, something gigantic awakens after being trapped for a thousand years. Destroying everything in its path, the creature is fast approaching the capital of Norway. But how do you stop something you thought only existed in Norwegian folklore? No release date for this intense horror film yet.

Wendell & Wild

If you love stop-motion animation and spooky stories, then you’ll be interested in Wendell & Wild, the upcoming film from Henry (Coraline, The Nightmare Before Christmas) Selick and Jordan (Get Out, Nope) Peele. In Wendell & Wild, two demon brothers trade the Underworld for the Land of the Living. What could go wrong? Wendell & Wild debuts October, just in time for Halloween.

The Sea Beast

From Academy Award winning filmmaker Chris Williams (Moana, Big Hero Six) comes The Sea Beast, an animated action adventure.

In an era when terrifying beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated heroes – and none were more beloved than the great Jacob Holland. But when young Maisie Brumble stows away on his fabled ship, he’s saddled with an unexpected ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.

The Sea Beast stars the voices of Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Hator, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens and Kathy Burke. The Sea Beast hits our screens on 8 July.
