Seems like Netflix is going on a cancellation binge. After the axing of Marco Polo and Bloodlines, as well as the highly rated The Getdown getting cut after just one season, the latest show to fall on the chopping block is Sense8.

Featuring the global adventures of eight psychically connected individuals from all over the world, Sense8 has been lauded as one of the most inclusive TV series to grace our screens. Including characters from all walk of life, woven together by a strange, sci-fi inspired story, Sense8 is, in my opinion, the definition of representational. Or was, as is the case now.

Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix original content, had this to say about the cancellation:

After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end. It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”

I know that Sense8 was ridiculously expensive to film. All eight cast members had to travel to all the locations where filming took place, which included Mexico, India, Germany and various locations in The States. And, keeping in mind that the Getdown was one of the most expensive shows on television with a whopping $120 million budget, it makes me wonder if Netflix might have some cash flow issues.

In any case, I will be watching season two with a heavy heart, knowing that it will be coming to an end. If you haven’t started watching it yet (*cough* Darryn *cough), now’s as good a time as any.
