March is a big month on Disney+. Before we even jump into our top series and movie picks for the period, here are some returning fan-favourite series to take note of: Grey’s Anatomy Season 19 and Station 19 Season 6 both start streaming from 8 March; while on the animation front, 31 March is a date to diarise as you can watch all-new episodes of The Simpsons S34, Family Guy S21, Bob’s Burger’s S13, and American Dad! S17.

Now on to the most notable of the upcoming additions to the streamer.

The Mandalorian S3 (Series)

On the mega franchise front, there’s no new Marvel show this month, but there is Star Wars! The galactic adventures of reticent bounty hunter The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) continue. Reunited with Force-sensitive, adorable Grogu after the events of The Book of Boba Fett, the pair cross paths with old allies and make new enemies, especially as our hero now wields the sought-after Darksaber. The 8-episode third season of The Mandalorian consists of weekly episode drops from tomorrow, 1 March.

Abbott Elementary S2 (Series)

Watch any television awards show of the last year or so, and you’re sure to encounter the name Abbott Elementary, a highly acclaimed comedy series centred on public school teachers in Philadelphia. Shot mockumentary style, the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning series centres on a group of dedicated teachers — and a slightly tone-deaf principal — who are determined to help their students succeed in life despite the odds stacked against them. Watch the first 10 episodes of the 22-episode second season from 1 March.

Empire of Light (Film)

March is Oscar month, and Disney+ is ensuring cinephiles have a steady diet of Academy Award-nominated fare via their “speciality film” subsidiary Searchlight Pictures. Coming from American Beauty, 1917 and Skyfall filmmaker Sam Mendes, Empire of Light is set in an English coastal town in the turbulent early 1980s, and explores the connections made by employees, each grappling with their own issues, at a fading cinema. Olivia Colman and Micheal Ward lead the cast. Watch from 1 March.

Boston Strangler (Film)

On 17 March, true crime fanatics can catch original Hulu movie Boston Strangler. Keira Knightley and Carrie Coon star in this thriller about the real-life trailblazing reporters who broke the story of the Boston Strangler murders of the 1960s, which took the lives of 13 women. As the mysterious killer claims more and more victims, the duo finds themselves stymied by the sexism of the era, but commit to uncovering the truth – even if that means putting their own lives at risk.

The Banshees of Inisherin (Film)

Missed this dark comedy-drama on the big screen, and curious about the awards season buzz? From 22 March, you’ll be able to watch The Banshees of Inisherin at home. From Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), and reuniting his In Bruges leads, Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell, The Banshees of Inisherin is set on a remote Irish island during the 1920s Civil War. Overnight, the bond between two lifelong friends breaks down, and attempts by the one to repair it lead to a shocking ultimatum.
