If you’re not yet ready to give up that laid-back holiday routine of lengthy TV sessions on the couch, Disney+ has some new attractions to keep the year-end vibes going well into January, and beyond.
And don’t forget that with its Season 1 finale coming up this month, you’ll be able to binge the whole of family-friendly adventure Star Wars: Skeleton Crew as of 14 January.
Goosebumps: The Vanishing (Series)
Following a hit 2023 series based on R. L. Stine’s books, Goosebumps returns in anthology form with second season Goosebumps: The Vanishing. This time around, twins Devin and Cece spend the summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn with their divorced dad. There they find themselves entangled in the mystery of four teenagers who vanished in 1994. David Schwimmer, Sam McCarthy and Jayden Bartels star.
All eight episodes of Goosebumps: The Vanishing are available from 10 January.
High Potential (Series)
There’s a new police procedural in town, and this one is solid. Based on the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, High Potential centres on a single mom (Kaitlin Olson), who, while working as a cleaning lady at a police station, starts applying her genius IQ to difficult cases. This leads to an unconventional partnership with Daniel Sunjata’s by-the-book detective. Created, and partially written, by The Good Place’s Drew Goddard.
High Potential launches on 23 January with two episodes. The series consists of nine parts.
Nightbitch (Film)
One for all the parents, and especially harried moms, is Nightbitch, a dark comedy horror film based on the novel of the same name. Amy Adams delivers an award-nominated performance as a former artist turned stay-at-home mom who begins to suspect she’s turning into a dog. But what is initially a terrifying thought soon become a liberating realisation that brings new spark to her humdrum suburban life.
Stream Nightbitch on Disney+ from 24 January.
Paradise (Series)
From the creator of This is Us and executive producer of Only Murders in the Building, Paradise is a brand-new mystery thriller starring Sterling K. Brown, James Marsden and Julianne Nicholson. Special Agent Xavier Collins (Brown), personal guard to a former president, finds himself in a middle of a high-stakes investigation when a murder takes place in the “picture perfect” community where they reside.
Paradise launches on 28 January with its first three episodes. Thereafter, the remaining five episodes will drop weekly.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Animated Series)
Marvel Animation’s X-Men ’97 was one of the animated series highlights of 2024, and clearly aiming to fill the gap this year is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Made in a 3D cel-shaded style that pays tribute to the original The Amazing Spider-Man comics, the new series is set in its own timeline (no MCU continuity to worry about), and takes Peter Parker back to the start of his crime-fighting career.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man swings into action with two episode on 29 January, followed by weekly episodes. The first season consists of 10 episodes in total.
