Craving some couch time as the first weekend of November arrives? Here are all the standout new series, movies and documentaries coming to African streamer Showmax in November. You can also check out the full schedule, covering everything, here.

Series

November is a huge month for returning shows. Chucky, Chicago Med, Sex and the City follow-up And Just Like That, Young Rock and Domina are all back. Of the newcomers, we’re most excited for homegrown Spinners, an award-winning Showmax Original made in partnership with CANAL+.

In Spinners, teenager Ethan (Cantona James) works as a driver for a local Cape Flats gang, in order to support his younger brother. Increasingly disgusted with gang life, Ethan discovers a possible way out via spinning, an extreme motorsport where he can put his driving skills to better, more fulfilling use.

Catch Spinners every Wednesday from 8 November.

Films

Your top new movie addition to Showmax in November is Knock at the Cabin, one of the strongest entries in M Night Shyamalan’s filmography. In this thriller, a young girl and her two dads are taken hostage by four armed strangers while vacationing at a remote cabin . This strange band of home invaders demands that the family make an unthinkable choice to avert the apocalypse. They must be crazy or lying, or are they? The cast includes Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, and Rupert Grint.

Watch Knock at the Cabin from 13 November.

We weren’t the biggest fans of gory horror comedy Renfield (here’s our review), but we can’t fault Nicolas Cage’s performance as Dracula, the most famous vampire of them all. For the record, Renfield centres on Dracula’s long-time thrall Renfield (Nicholas Hoult), who is desperate to break free from his boss after decades of abuse. Complicating matters, Renfield’s attempts to end his codependency coincide with meeting police officer Rebecca (Awkwafina), and coming to the attention of a powerful crime family.

Renfield joins Showmax on 30 November.

For movies off the beaten track, check out Next Exit, a sci-fi road trip comedy drama that won Best Cinematography at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival. When a contentious study claims to have found proof of life after death, misfits Rose (Katie Parker) and Teddy (Rahul Kohli) race across the country together to join the project and leave their lives behind. Also with Rose McIver and Karen Gillan.

Watch Next Exit from 20 November.

Documentaries

If you love real-life inspiring tales centred on sport, check out HBO docuseries Angel City, which goes behind the scenes of groundbreaking Los Angeles-based women’s soccer team Angel City FC. What makes them groundbreaking? They’re backed by the largest female ownership group in professional sports, including the likes of Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, and Serena Williams. In addition to its club focus, Angel City dives into the issue of how women athletes continue to fight for equity and respect.

Watch Angel City in its three-episode entirety from 27 November.
