The key phrase for Showmax in March is “Wait, is that available already?” as the streamer brings some of the biggest movies of 2024, along with new and returning series, to home viewers.

Series
While Suits: LA, and the latest seasons of The White Lotus and Yellowjackets continue their weekly episode drops started last month, they’re joined by other popular returnees and brand new series in March. The returning shows include local drama Empini S2 (Tuesdays from 4 March), family comedy drama The Righteous Gemstones S4 (Mondays from 24 March), thriller The Cleaning Lady S4 (Wednesdays from 26 March) and gritty crime tale Gangs of London S3 (Binge from Tuesday, 25 March). Plus, as of Monday, 10 March, you can watch all 4 seasons of ultra-acclaimed Mr Robot, starring Rami Malek.
As for the new shows on the streaming block, it starts with British limited series A Very Royal Scandal, based on real-life events. Michael Sheen plays Prince Andrew and Ruth Wilson is journalist Emily Maitlis in this account of the infamous 2019 Newsnight interview where the royal tried to dodge questions about his connection to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
Binge A Very Royal Scandal from Thursday, 6 March.
For something closer to home, there’s Showmax Original and coming-of-age sports drama Breekpunt. Chelsea Thomas stars as a gutsy teenager fighting for the chance to compete on the international tennis stage. Adding to the mammoth challenge are distractions posed by her boyfriend and troubled brother, plus lack of support by her father, who refuses to believe tennis is the path to success.
Catch Breekpunt on Mondays from 10 March.
For families, meanwhile, there’s period mystery adventure The Famous Five, inspired by the beloved books by Enid Blyton. Drive filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn is the, erm, driving force behind this adaptation, which takes the form of 90-minute episodes. Daring young friends George, Julian, Dick, Anne and their dog Timmy find themselves knee-deep in action, treachery, danger and secrets. Look out for Harry Potter’s Jack Gleeson in the cast.
Watch all of The Famous Five S1 from Friday, 21 March.
Film
It Ends With Us was one of the surprise box office hits of 2024 and now it’s your chance to experience the romance – based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel – that has stirred up all kinds of drama behind the scenes, including legal action. Blake Lively stars as a florist who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston, only to find herself torn between a charming neurosurgeon (Justin Baldoni) and her first love (Brandon Sklenar).
Watch It Ends With Us on Showmax from Saturday, 1 March.
The Monsterverse movies are always best experienced on the biggest screen possible, but if you missed the latest entry in this expanding franchise, now’s your chance to catch up at home. In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, following their clash in Godzilla vs. Kong, the two legendary creatures must join forces to combat a colossal new threat hidden within our world. On the human front, Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle return, with Dan Stevens joining the cast. Here’s our review.
Stream Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire from Monday, 3 March.
As a side note, if you like CGI-heavy blockbusters, you can also watch series finale Venom: The Last Dance from Monday, 31 March… but just know it’s not very good.
Heretic only came to cinemas in late November last year, but the thought-provoking A24 horror film is already streaming at home from this month. Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East play Mormon missionaries who find their faith tested when they visit the charming but diabolical Mr Reed (Hugh Grant) and end up trapped in his deadly game of cat-and-mouse. Fantastic performances and smart dialogue drive the thrills and chills here.
Stream Heretic from Thursday, 13 March.
Still in the mood for more horror, but of a more playful kind? Check out Abigail from Thursday, 20 March. Here’s our review of this gory comedy from the makers of Ready or Not, where a squad of hired kidnappers realise they’ve snatched a vicious vampire in child form.
Documentaries
A lot has been said about Gen Z, but the novelty of five-part documentary series Habits of Gen Z is that it looks at the generation born in the mid-to-late 1990s, up to the early 2010s, in the context of liberal South Africa. Made by the same production company behind Tracking Thabo Bester and Devilsdorp, the homegrown show shares candid perspectives of the young people who are poster kids of progress, even as they struggle with unprecedented challenges.
Binge Habits of Gen Z from Friday, 7 March.
