The biggest thing coming to Showmax this month is the streamer’s much talked-about relaunch, which you can learn all about here. At this very moment, up until the official debut on 12 February, existing subscribers are having their accounts migrated over to the new website, and are receiving step-by-step guidance on how to get the new Showmax app for TV, mobile and console. There’s even a FAQ on this new Showmax overview page.

Anyway, with everything in flux right now, and the huge relaunch ahead, be aware that our February highlights list below is just a taste of what you’ll be able to watch this month. You can find the full line-up here. Happy viewing.

Series

Along with full box sets of comedies Parks & Recreation (all 7 seasons) and The Office (S1-9), from 12 February, you can also catch the return of sci-fi video game adaptation Halo. In Season 2, super-soldier Master Chief John-117 (Pablo Schreiber) sets out to prove what no one else will believe – that the Covenant are preparing to attack humanity’s greatest stronghold. Our salvation relies on finding the mysterious alien structure known as the Halo.

Watch the first two episodes of Halo S2 on 12 February, then weekly thereafter.

R-rated university drama Wyfie is one of 20 (yes, 20!) Showmax Originals premiering in February alongside the relaunch of the new Showmax. Coming from Homebrew Films, the makers of Trompoppie, and Magda Louw, the Afrikaans-language series follows four mismatched first-year roommates at Pantera res at the fictional Eike university, and is being punted as South Africa’s own Euphoria due to its no holds barred look at varsity life and contemporary Afrikaans culture.

Wyfie premieres on 12 February, with two episodes every Tuesday.

Local viewers love true crime, especially homegrown tales, so there’s sure to be a lot of interest in 10-part Catch Me A Killer, based on the memoir of Micki Pistorius, South Africa’s first serial killer profiler, whose cases included the Cleveland Killer and Stewart ‘Boetie Boer’ Wilken in the 1990s. Micki is played by Game of Thrones actress Charlotte Hope, and the series is a co-production between Showmax and Germany’s Night Train Media.

Catch Me A Killer premieres on 12 February, with new episodes – each covering a different case – every Wednesday until 10 April.

For something a bit more lighthearted, there’s Ted, a small-screen spin-off of the hit big screen comedies. This prequel shifts the misadventures of the titular talking teddy bear back to 1993 as Ted (voiced by franchise creator Seth MacFarlane), is forced to navigate high school alongside his teenage best friend John (Max Burkholder).

Binge Ted in its season 1 entirety from 12 February. From 22 February you’ll also be able to watch the two Ted movies on Showmax.

So much new content is coming to the new Showmax on 12 February, but long before that date, you can watch miniseries Full Circle, directed by Steven Soderbergh. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low, crime thriller Full Circle centres on an investigation into a botched kidnapping, which uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in New York City. The star-packed cast includes Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant and Dennis Quaid.

Watch all 6 episodes of Full Circle from 1 February.

From the other side of the Atlantic, there’s SAS Rogue Heroes. This irreverent historical actioner comes from the creator of Peaky Blinders and is based on the book of the same name by Ben Macintyre. The series explores the “mostly true” story of how (arguably) the world’s greatest special forces unit was formed during the darkest days of World War II. With Sex Education’s Connor Swindells as SAS founder David Stirling, plus Game of Thrones’s Alfie Allen, Jack O’Connell, Dominic West and Sofia Boutella.

Stream SAS Rogue Heroes from 12 February, with new episodes added every Thursday. P.S. Season 2 is already in the works.

Films

Along with every single Bourne movie (from 19 February), this month brings prestige cinema fans the opportunity to watch Damien Chazelle’s exploration of 1920s Hollywood decadence in Babylon (from 29 February), and Brendan Fraser’s Oscar-winning performance in The Whale (from 1 February).

Showmax isn’t skimping on box office-topping blockbusters either. The biggest draw card of the month is Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (our review) where Tom Cruise is back for the seventh time as tenacious Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt, alongside fellow franchise returnees Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson and Vanessa Kirby. Hayley Atwell is the notable newcomer in this race against time to stop a sentient AI weapon.

Stream Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One from 12 February.

The follow-up to Oscar-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse swings onto Showmax this month. Currently in the running for an Academy Award as well is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (our review). This time around, Miles Morales is catapulted across the multiverse, meeting and then clashing with an entire army of Spider-People (led by Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099).

If you haven’t already, check out the highly recommended Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse from 18 February.

A video game movie with a difference, Gran Turismo is based on real-life events, where a teen player (played by Archie Madekwe) of Gran Turismo went on to become a professional racing car driver via the reality series and training programme GT Academy. David Harbour plays a failed former driver skeptical of young hero’s chances, while Orlando Bloom is the idealistic motorsport executive ready to risk everything on an underdog. South African-born Neill Blomkamp (District Nine, Elysium) directs.

Watch Gran Turismo from 12 February.

Raunchy comedy No Hard Feelings is a change of pace for leading lady Jennifer Lawrence. In this box office hit, she plays Maddie, a woman on the brink of losing her home when she encounters a strange but high-paying job listing: wealthy helicopter parents want someone to bring their introverted 19-year-old son Percy (Andrew Feldman) out of his shell before he leaves for college.

Watch No Hard Feelings from 5 February.

Documentaries

Our documentary pick for the month is three-episode Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons, an expose that looks behind the curtain of the world-famous fashion brand that experienced a dramatic rise and fall. Central to those fortunes was the relationship between the company’s long-time CEO, larger-than-life billionaire Les Wexner and his chief financial advisor… Jeffrey Epstein.

Watch all of Victoria’s Secret: Angels and Demons from 12 February.
