A new month means loads of new entertainment coming to streaming services. As usual, Showmax is treating audiences in Sub-Saharan Africa to hit international series and movies, in addition to original homegrown content.

You can find the full August release schedule for Showmax here, but we’re highlighting a few things that excite us most.

Firstly, if you love your CW superhero series, mark August 13 in your calendar. That date brings viewers The Flash Season 7, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow S6, the first seven episodes of Supergirl’s final season, and Batwoman S2, which sees Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder donning the cape and cowl to replace Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane.

Of the new series coming to Showmax, our standout is HBO comedy drama The Flight Attendant, streaming from this Friday, 5 August. The Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco is reckless flight attendant Cassie Bowden, who wakes up in the wrong bed, with a dead body beside her, and no idea what happened. Rosie Perez and Michelle Gomez also star in one of the most acclaimed new series of 2020.

On the movie front, South African audiences can finally watch trippy but powerful horror Midsommar at home. This second feature film effort from Hereditary filmmaker Ari Aster stars Florence Pugh, and sees a group of young Americans get more than they bargained for when they travel to a mid-summer festival in a remote part of Sweden.

Also on the thriller front is Run, starring Sarah Paulson as a mother who may be keeping a dark secret from her teenage daughter (Kiera Allen), a young woman who has been plagued by ill health since infancy. Run starts streaming from August 23.

Finally, a special shoutout to fantasy series A Discovery of Witches Season 2, which has already been streaming since August 1. We never watched Season 1, but this adaptation of the All Souls novel trilogy looks ultra-premium and interesting. Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer star as a vampire and witch who share a forbidden love, and, in Season 2, flee from the present day to 1590.
