Just one new movie releases in South Africa this week. Its lone status makes sense when you consider how big it is. In many ways.

Coming to cinemas in conventional format, as well as IMAX, 3D, 4DX, Xtreme and D-BOX, sci-fi actioner Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh live-action Transformers blockbuster. It’s set after the events of prequel Bumblebee, and before the original big screen Transformers saga, treating audiences to a globe-trotting adventure that kicks off in New York City in 1994.

Noah (Anthony Ramos), an ex-military electronics expert, and Elena (Dominique Fishback), an artifact researcher, find themselves on the side of Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots as three new factions join the universe-spanning conflict between the machine beings: the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is directed by Creed II’s Steven Caple Jr. Meanwhile, voicing the various Transformers are the likes of franchise staple Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime), and stars Ron Perlman (Optimus Primal), Michelle Yeoh (Airazor), and Peter Dinklage (Scourge).
