The first weekend in October is bringing South African movie fans two new big screen releases, along with the surprise re-release of a fan-favourite franchise. As part of Ster Kinekor’s Throwback Thursdays, where you can watch returning hits for R50 a ticket, the entire Hunger Games movie series is screening again in select cinemas. It’s the perfect opportunity to refamiliarise youself with the dystopian world of Panem before prequel The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes releases on 17 November.

As for this week’s brand new releases, you can find out more about them below.

The Exorcist: Believer is clearly trying to repeat the success of the Halloween franchise, as this paranormal horror film serves as a decades-later sequel. In fact, this 50-years-later follow-up comes from the same team responsible for Halloween’s successful resurrection, and adopts a similar formula as it maps out a whole new trilogy.

The plot in Believer: Desperate father Victor Fielding (Leslie Odom, Jr.) seeks out actress Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn, returning to the role for the first time since 1973 original The Exorcist) after his daughter (Lidya Jewett) and her best friend (Olivia O’Neill) disappear into the woods, and return horrifyingly changed.
