Fans of John Wick will want to make time for action thriller Monkey Man. Dev Patel directs and stars in this revenge tale set in India, about a nameless young man who, after years of suppressed rage, sets out to settle the score with the powerful, corrupt men who took everything from him. His campaign of retribution starts with honing his combat skills in an underground fight club. Also with South Africa’s Sharlto Copley.

The First Omen is a brand-new prequel entry in the The Omen horror movie franchise. Set in 1971, the film follows Margaret, a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church. There, while working in an orphanage, she uncovers a conspiracy intent on bringing about the birth of evil incarnate. The film’s cast also includes Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, Charles Dance, and Bill Nighy.

For something less intense, although it looks like it packs an emotional kick, Ordinary Angels is screening in limited release. Inspired by a true story, the drama shows how Kentucky hairdresser Sharon (Hilary Swank) overcomes her problems and finds purpose by helping a widowed father (Reacher’s Alan Ritchson) save the life of his critically ill daughter. Sharon goes so far as to help rally the community during a deadly 1994 cold wave so the little girl can get urgent treatment.
