Next Friday, 11 November (with early screenings on the 10th) sees the release of a biggie – Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the movie that ends Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Maybe it’s because of Wakanda Forever’s impending premiere that this week it’s pretty quiet at South African cinemas. Just three movies release this weekend.

The Invitation

In horror thriller The Invitation, Evie (Game of Thrones and Army of Thieves’ Nathalie Emmanuel) takes a DNA test after her mother’s death and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, sheʼs at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host, Walter (Thomas Doherty), but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her familyʼs history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.

The Bodyguard 30th Anniversary Event

One day only, one screening at select Ster Kinekor cinemas. Catch the special 30th anniversary showing of The Bodyguard on 6 November at 3pm. In this classic romantic drama-thriller, Whitney Houston (in her big screen debut) plays Rachel Marron, a megastar at her peak. Fans want to see her. Hear her. Touch her. But one wants to kill her – and that’s where security expert Frank Farmer, played by Kevin Costner, comes in. But as the stakes rise, their relationship evolves from professional to personal.

The Survivor

Biographical drama The Survivor is based on the true story of Harry Haft (Ben Foster), who, while a prisoner in Auschwitz concentration camp during WWII, was forced by an SS Officer to fight fellow prisoners in gruesome gladiatorial boxing matches. Harry finally escapes and makes it to New York. Haunted by his memories and guilt over his survival, he fights boxing legends like Rocky Marciano, in the hope that his name will get noticed and see him reunited with his first love.
