Two new movies debut in South African cinemas from this Friday. Each are geared up to deliver thrills, but of a very different kind. Meanwhile, the first film in June to get a re-release as part of Ster Kinekor’s Throwback Cinema offering is cult classic Australian comedy The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

There’s no longer just one Night Shyamalan making unnerving horror movies. The Watchers is the feature film debut of Ishana Night Shyamalan, M. Night’s daughter. Based on the novel by A.M. Shine, The Watchers centres on young artist Mina (Dakota Fanning) who finds herself stranded in a untouched forest in western Ireland. The situation worsens when she’s trapped alongside three strangers, who reveal that they’re watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night. Also starring Barbarian’s Georgina Campbell, Outlander’s Oliver Finnegan, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre’s Olwen Fouere.

Action comedy Bad Boys Ride or Die is sure to be the big winner at the box office this weekend. In this fourth entry in the Bad Boys movie series, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith return as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, this time investigating corruption within the police department when their late Captain is posthumously accused of working with drug cartels. Their involvement turns the pair into fugitives, forcing them to work outside the law in order to solve the case. For the record, Adil & Bilall are back in the director’s chair after 2020’s Bad Boys For Life.
