Roll for initiative. Then decide what you’ll be watching from this week’s set of new cinema releases, which are led from the front by Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Below you can find out more about each of this Friday’s three big screen debuts.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

If you’ve ever wanted an action comedy heist movie set in a high fantasy universe, well, that’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves for you. A charming thief (Chris Pine) and a band of unlikely adventurers (Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis) embark on a quest to retrieve a lost relic, but they run afoul of the wrong people – including Daisy Head’s Red Wizard, and Hugh Grant’s slippery rogue turned ruler. Even if you’re unfamiliar with the tabletop role-playing game that inspired it, Honor Among Thieves is a load of fun; accessible and surprisingly heartfelt.

Here’s our full review of Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

The Honeymoon

Think of this chick flick comedy as a South African Girls Trip. When Kat’s (Kajal Bagwandeen) fiancé calls off their wedding the night before their big day, her best friends, Noks (Tumi Morake) and Lu (Minnie Dlamini) persuade a devastated Kat to turn her honeymoon in Zanzibar into a girlfriend’s getaway. What was meant to be a holiday away from their problems, soon becomes a holiday into their problems. Will their friendship survive a wild time in paradise?

Marlowe

Liam Neeson doesn’t just make cookie cutter action thrillers these days. Breaking from the mould (slightly) is retro-style crime noir mystery Marlowe, based on the classic Raymond Chandler character. Set in late 1930’s Los Angeles, down on his luck detective Philip Marlowe (Neeson) is hired to find the ex-lover of a glamorous heiress (Diane Kruger), daughter of Jessica Lange’s movie star. Very soon Marlowe is caught up in a dangerous investigation where everyone involved has something to hide. Also with Danny Huston, Alan Cumming, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, plus Neil Jordan in the director’s chair.
