Take a breath. It’s an unusually quiet week at South African cinemas with just two new movies releasing. This is in addition to LGBT+ comedy The Birdcage (starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane) as this week’s Throwback Cinema option, and André Rieu’s 2024 Maastricht: Power of Love, a concert recording that is on the big screen for this weekend only at both Ster Kinekor and Nu Metro.

Enjoy the break, though; sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is already out next Friday.

Actioner Hounds of War has big straight to VOD energy. Frank Grillo plays a mercenary who is the only survivor of his crew when a final mission goes horribly wrong. He proceeds to take revenge for his fallen brothers in arms. Also starring Rhona Mitra and Robert Patrick.

Screening at select Ster Kinekor cinemas is animated Chinese adventure Into the Mortal World, inspired by the ancient folktale “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.” Jin Feng, son of the disgraced Weaver, leaves the celestial realm for the mortal world, where he sets out to atone for his mother’s sins by recapturing the escaped constellations. In Mandarin with English subtitles.
