There are three new movies coming to the big screen this week, but undoubtedly the biggest drawcard will be Deadpool & Wolverine. Going up against the Merc with the Mouth is middle-aged wine-mom comedy The Fabulous Four and animated afternoon special Storm Crashers.
Elsewhere at South Africa cinemas, you can catch Pretty Woman as this week’s Ster Kinekor Throwback Cinema release. Or, if you’re interested in more theatrical pursuits, you can check out a recording of Billie Piper in powerful theatrical production Yerma, staged at the Young Vic.
LFG! After the timey-wimey shenanigans in Deadpool 2, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is on the Time Variance Authority’s radar, who pull him out of his own timeline with the news that his world is dying. Now it’s up to Deadpool to save his dying universe by finding the X-Man that can save it all: The Wolverine (Hugh Jackman). We absolutely loved Deadpool & Wolverine and we highly recommend getting your viewing in as soon as possible, as dodging spoilers is going to prove impossible. In the meantime, you can read our spoiler-free review here.
If you’re not interested in superhero shenanigans, The Fabulous Four will provide hijinks of a different kind. Three life-long friends (Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally, and Sheryl Lee Ralph) travel to Key West, Florida to be bridesmaids in a surprise wedding of their college girlfriend Marilyn (Bette Midler). Once there, sisterhoods are rekindled, the past rises up again in all its glory, and there are enough sparks, drinks and romance to change all their lives in ways they never expected.
If your kids are way too young for Deadpool, you can drop them off at Storm Crashers (AKA Giants of la Mancha), an animated adventure that follows 11-year-old Alfonso, heir to Don Quixote, his three imaginary rabbits, and pals Pancho and Victoria. With their power of friendship, they set out to save their beloved hometown in La Mancha from a monstrous storm.
