What are the holidays without a big superhero blockbuster? Filling that requirement this season is Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. In the second Aquaman solo film, once again directed by James Wan, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) is forced to forge an alliance with his half-brother, Orm (Patrick Wilson), when a vengeful Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) returns wielding the mythic Black Trident – which has the power to unleash a malevolent world-ending entity.
Looking for a family-friendly animated movie outing? Migration comes from Illumination, the studio responsible for Minions, The Secret Lives of Pets, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sing. Finally convinced to leave their New England pond and migrate south, the Mallards embark on a family trip, via New York City, to tropical Jamaica, but their well-laid plans quickly go awry. Featuring the voices of Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Danny DeVito.
Next Goal Wins is a sports comedy drama from Thor: Ragnarok, What We Do in the Shadows and Jojo Rabbit filmmaker Taika Waititi. The film is based on the true story of Dutch American football coach Thomas Rongen (Michael Fassbender), who was forced to accept the near impossible task of getting the American Samoa national team – considered one of the weakest teams in the world – into the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Also with Oscar Kightley, Will Arnett, and Elisabeth Moss.

Wrap up the year with spiky romantic comedy Anyone But You. Starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, the film centres on a briefly-together couple whose initial fiery attraction turned into loathing. But when they find themselves unexpectedly reunited at a destination wedding in Australia, they pretend to be together for their own reasons. From the director of Easy A and Friends with Benefits.
Acclaimed filmmaker Michael Mann is back with biopic Ferrari. Adam Driver plays ex-racer turned entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari, who, in the summer of 1957 is reeling from the death of his son Dino, the deteriorating marriage with wife Laura (Penélope Cruz), and his company’s impending bankruptcy. Ferrari’s solution is to throw himself, and his team, into the Mille Miglia, a treacherous 1,000-mile race.
If you’re up for ending the year on a dystopian note, there’s British survival drama The End We Start From. Based on Megan Hunter’s debut novel, The End We Start From kicks off with London submerged by flood waters. During this environmental crisis, a woman and her newborn try to find their way home to reunite their family. Starring Jodie Comer, Katherine Waterston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong.
