Sometimes a public holiday on a Thursday means an early release day for the week’s new movies in South Africa. Not this time. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow for your fresh cinema outing.
Also, it seems like the distributors are holding back for the upcoming Easter weekend, as there is only one new film debut, along with a Nickelback music documentary showing on select days in the coming week, and a one-day-only live music performance (today, 21 March) from local singer-songwriter Brendan Peyper.
As for your lone new feature film debut tomorrow, that honour belongs to animated adventure Kung Fu Panda 4. Unlikely panda champion Po (Jack Black) must find and train a new Dragon Warrior when he’s chosen to become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace. However, Po’s mission is interrupted by the appearance of a powerful shape-shifting sorceress known as The Chameleon (Viola Davis), who can harness the powers of every villain Po once vanquished. To defeat his new enemy, our hero is forced to team up with a morally dubious corsac fox (Awkwafina) and an unexpected band of allies.
