One of the year’s most anticipated films releases tomorrow – the sequel to arguably the best Spider-Man movie (live-action or otherwise) ever made. Taking it on as the week’s sole other new cinema debut is an atmospheric horror film that’s had an unusual path to the big screen. Find out more about both of them below.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) returns for the next chapter of the Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld), Miles is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes, under the leadership of hulking Miguel O’Hara, AKA Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against this Spider Society, which consists of new and familiar faces.

Across the Spider-Verse is the middle chapter of the Spider-Verse trilogy, following 2018’s Oscar-winning Into the Spider-Verse, and sitting before Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is due for release on 29 March next year.

The Boogeyman

Based on an early short story from Stephen King, The Boogeyman focuses on high school student Sadie Harper (Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher) and her younger sister, Sawyer (Vivien Lyra Blair), who are reeling from the recent death of their mother. They’re not getting much support from their therapist father, Will (Chris Messina) who has thrown himself into his work. Things get even worse when a desperate patient (David Dastmalchian) unexpectedly shows up at their house, leaving behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on human suffering.

The Boogeyman was originally intended to go straight to streaming, but apparently tested so well with preview audiences, it was elevated to cinema release. Still, you never can tell…
