It’s another week with only one new movie release in South Africa. Although that’s not the only thing coming to South Africa cinemas. There’s also ballet Giselle, and, for one weekend only at IMAX, remastered concert film Queen Rock Montreal.
On the feature film front, your single new choice is novel adaptation Poor Things, a dark fantasy comedy, and feminist retelling of the Frankenstein story, from The Favourite filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos. In Victorian London, a young woman, Bella (Emma Stone), is brought back to life by scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Initially naïve, Bella’s intellect advances quickly and she runs away with Mark Ruffalo’s slick lawyer to experience the world – at the same time she demands equality and liberation.
Look out for our review of massively acclaimed (and recent Golden Globe winner) Poor Things soon.
