If you’re here for a good time, but not necessarily a memorable time, the fifth Marvel Cinematic Universe film of Phase 4 (if you exclude Spider-Man: No Way Home), Thor: Love and Thunder, releases in cinemas this week. Not that it really matters where Love and Thunder fits in the current MCU narrative due to its largely standalone nature. If you’re not into superheroes, though, you can always check out the other new release, a British sex comedy-drama (which is a weird sentence to type) starring Emma Thompson.
Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is attempting to find inner peace after the events of Avengers: Endgame, but must return to action and recruit Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman)—who is now the Mighty Thor—to stop Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) from eliminating all gods. In the British sex comedy-drama, two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson embodies the candor and apprehension of retired teacher Nancy Stokes, who hires a good-looking young sex worker called Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack), in the hope of enjoying a night of pleasure and self-discovery after an unfulfilling married life.
