No hunt required. Disney+ is dishing out Easter treats for the whole family in April. If you’re a science fiction fan, you’re especially lucky, as this month the streamer boasts the latest installments of two of the biggest franchises in the world: Star Wars (in the form of acclaimed Andor) and Doctor Who.

As a sidenote, if you’re looking for kid-friendly entertainment that everyone can enjoy during the holiday break, last year’s photo-realistic prequel Mufasa: The Lion King is available now on Disney+. It came to the service on 26 March.

A Real Pain (Film)

It’s normally around this time of year that Disney+ treats prestige cinema fans to some award season contenders, courtesy of its Searchlight Pictures division.

In 2025, that means the surprise addition of Oscar-winning comedy drama A Real Pain, which earned Kieran Culkin an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In A Real Pain, mismatched cousins David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Culkin) head off for a tour of Poland, in honour of their grandmother. In the process, old family tensions boil to the surface. Not only does Eisenberg star, but he writes, directs and produces as well.

Watch A Real Pain on Disney+ right now.

Dying For Sex (Series)

For more emotionally raw comedy drama, there’s FX’s brand new series Dying for Sex, which is based on the smash hit Wondery podcast. Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate play real-life best friends Molly Kochan and Nikki Boyer, who are shaken when Molly is diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. With the clock ticking, Molly decides to explore the full breadth and complexity of her sexual desires for the first time in her life.

All eight episodes of Dying For Sex are available from 4 April.

P.S. Look out for our Dying For Sex review, and other exclusive content, soon.

Doctor Who (Series)

Iconic British sci-fi show Doctor Who is back this month with the dual return of showrunner Russell T Davies, and star Ncuti Gatwa, who is playing the Fifteenth Doctor, the latest iteration of the alien time lord with a soft spot for Planet Earth. In the second season of Gatwa’s run, Varada Sethu becomes the Doctor’s new companion Belinda Chandra, AKA The Nurse, and the Doctor is intent on returning her home. That means a fresh set of timey-wimey adventures across time and space.

Doctor Who returns with weekly episode drops on Disney+ from 12 April.

Light & Magic (Documentary Series)

We love an insightful look into all those movies and series that make us believe the impossible; that transport us convincingly to other worlds and realities. So count us excited for Season 2 of Light & Magic, which explores the history and continued pioneering influence of visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), which dates all the way back to 1975.

Season 1 released back in 2022 with six episodes, while Light & Magic Season 2 is streaming from 18 April, and consists of three new parts.

Below is the trailer for Season 1, but it provides a good idea of what to expect.

Otherwise on the documentary front, it’s a great month for animal lovers, as April delivers all three episodes of National Geographic’s Secrets of the Penguins, a 20-years-later spiritual successor to March of the Penguins. Catch the miniseries from 21 April. In addition, Earth Day celebrations on Disney+ see Disneynature’s Guardians of the Galapagos and Sea Lions of the Galapagos coming to the streamer on 22 April.

Andor (Series)

Finally, one of the most acclaimed entries in the Star Wars franchise returns with its second and final season. Serving as a prequel to movie Rogue One (itself setting up the events of Star Wars: A New Hope), Andor chronicles the story of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) a cynical thief who becomes a key figure in the Rebel Alliance, and redefines the organisation’s ability to fight the despotic Empire. Gritty, mature-minded and stuffed full of betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas, Andor’s cast includes familiar faces like Stellan Skarsgård, Fiona Shaw and Forest Whitaker.

Andor Season 2 launches on 23 April with three episodes. The season will consist of 12 episodes total.
