If you’re all about Star Wars and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney+ doesn’t have anything new for adult fans this month. You’ll have to keep your eye on the Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023 happening this weekend in London for announcements and other cool reveals.
That said, for home viewers, massively popular The Mandalorian Season 3 is underway, with the finale dropping on 19 April. And, streaming from 24 April, is a brand new animated series for the littleys, called Young Jedi Adventures, set in the High Republic era. The full first season is likely arriving on 4 May but before that, a set of shorts is coming to Disney+ this month.
As for everything else from the House of Mouse, these are our curated top picks for April.
Peter Pan & Wendy (Film)
The last few film takes on the Peter Pan story haven’t found an audience, so we can assume Disney is hoping that won’t be the case for Peter Pan & Wendy, a live-action adaptation of their 1953 animated classic, and the J.M. Barrie fantasy adventure novel that was its basis. Directed by David Lowery (The Green Knight, Pete’s Dragon), Peter Pan & Wendy introduces Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson), a young girl on the cusp of adulthood, who is swept away to Neverland with her brothers by Peter Pan (Alexander Molony), a boy who refuses to grow up. Jude Law plays vengeful pirate Captain Hook.
Watch Peter Pan & Wendy from 28 April, exclusive to Disney+.
The Pope Answers (TV Special)
Well timed for Easter, The Pope Answers sees ten young people from all over the world meet in Rome with Pope Francis, with the aim of talking and conveying to him the main concerns of their generation. In this unprecedented face-to-face conversation, guided by the young people’s own questions, they will address such important issues for today’s youth as migration, sexuality, gender identity, and religious freedom.
Watch from 5 April.
Tiny Beautiful Things (Series)
Based on the best-selling collection by Cheryl Strayed, dramedy Tiny Beautiful Things follows Clare (WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn) a writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. Through her Dear Sugar persona, Clare forms a salve for her readers – and for herself – to show us that we are not beyond rescue, that our stories can ultimately save us.
Binge the entire 8-episode season from 7 April.
Quasi (Film)
Through Hulu, Disney+ subscribers will be able to watch the latest effort from comedy troupe Broken Lizard, the team behind Super Troopers, Beerfest and Club Dread. In Quasi, a hapless hunchback yearns for love, but finds himself in the middle of a murderous feud between the Pope and the king of France when each orders the hunchback to kill the other. The cast includes Broken Lizard members Steve Lemme, Kevin Heffernan, Jay Chandrasekhar and Erik Stolhanske, with Adrianne Palicki.
Watch from 20 April.
